Summer Learning for K-12 Students Richland Two

Summer Learning for K-12 Students Richland Two

Richland Two is planning to offer SOAR (Summer Opportunity for Academic Readiness), a  FREE, in-person extended learning camp. The Elementary SOAR program will offer full-day classes starting Monday, June 21 and ending Tuesday, July 20. Start times and end times will be determined after registration and transportation logistics are finalized. Teachers, instructional assistants, and nurses, etc. more information about employment opportunities will be shared soon.

Please note SOAR is separate from the Read to Succeed Summer Reading Camp offered by the district each summer. Students cannot participate in both.  SOAR is separate from Special Education Extended School Year (ESY) Services that is offered each summer. Some Special Education students will have the option of attending both SOAR and ESY.

At the elementary level, instruction will focus on English/language arts and mathematics and possibly additional enrichment opportunities for the upcoming year.

Transportation

Transportation to and from SOAR will be provided.

Meals

Students will receive a free breakfast and lunch each day.

Two questions. We promise!

If you’re interested, log into your Parent Portal account between March 22-March 31 and indicate:

  1. you want your child to participate

  2. if you will need transportation.

Be sure to do this for EACH CHILD that you would like to register. On the top left you will find a tab for each child, if not you will need to add your additional children.

Registration closes March 31

P-EBT BENEFITS — SECOND ROUND

The Department of Social Services (DSS) and the South Carolina Department of Education (SCDE) are working to provide Pandemic EBT (P-EBT) benefits to qualifying children across South Carolina. Click here to review an FAQ about the program.

All households with potentially eligible students are strongly encouraged to validate their address in the DSS P-EBT Address Portal on or before March 19, 2021. The P-EBT Address Portal is located on the DSS website at: https://benefitsportal.dss.sc.gov/#/pebt/addressverification

To locate a child in the Address Portal the parent must have: Student Last Name, Date of Birth, PowerSchool Student ID (available in on the Grades and Attendance screen in Parent Portal), School District, and School Name.

P-EBT is an optional federal program designed to provide food benefits to children who have temporarily lost access to free and reduced-price meals at school due to school closures triggered by COVID-19. For the 2020-21 school year, eligible children will receive a P-EBT benefit based on the number of days they attend school virtually each month.

IMPORTANT DATES

March 25 and 26, and April 15 and 16 will be asynchronous eLearning days for students so that the district can hold vaccine clinics for our employees.
